TEHRAN (IQNA) – Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed el-Tayeb described Eid al-Adha as an opportunity for Muslims all over the world to strengthen unity.

In a message released ahead of Eid, the cleric congratulated Muslims worldwide on the auspicus occasion.

He called on all followers of Islam to use the opportunity to boost the spirit of fraternity, tolerance and solidarity.

He also urged Muslims to help the poor and those in need, al-Ittihad daily reported.

Sheikh el-Tayeb noted that Eid al-Adha symbolizes sacrifice, salvation and obeying God, saying that the Muslim and Arab Ummah should be inspired by the love, unity and peace in it to get away from discord and disunity.

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important Islamic festivals held after the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

Also known as the sacrifice feast, it is celebrated to honor the dedication and willingness of Prophet Abraham (AS) to sacrifice his son as an act of submission on God’s command.
